Ralph Steadman Breaks Bad

As the man who gave form to the twisted genius of Hunter S. Thompson, British illustrator Ralph Steadman’s collaboration with the creators of Breaking Bad seems like the perfect fit. Steadman, himself a fan of the hit US show, has been working with Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan to create some limited-edition covers for a special boxset of the series due out in early 2015.

Thanks in part to his work with the Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas author, Steadman has a special skill for working in a world dominated by drugs, shady characters and moral relativism, and his vibrant, evocative draughtsmanship, in particular the wound-up ink splatters and off-kilter faces, seem to mirror the warped intensity of Breaking Bad.

Depicting the charecters in his own unimitatable style, Steadman’s versions of Walter White, Jesse Pinkman, Saul Goodman, Gus Fring, Hank Schrader and Mike Ehrmantraut will each represent a series of the show in a boxset to be made available exclusively through Zavvi in February.

It goes without saying that Breaking Bad exclusives are always welcome news and we can only hope this goes some way towards softening the blow felt by Breaking Bad fans that fell victim to hoax reports of a surprise 6th season. But we’re all ears when it comes to hearing how that would work…
